Job Description:
The department of Physiology and Aging at the University of Florida, College of Medicine is looking for a candidate to join a laboratory in the foundational sciences. The ideal candidate will have experience in experimental rodent manipulation, including survival surgeries. Candidate should possess basic rat handling and experimental skills as well as basic molecular biology skills such as IHC and RNAScope. Additional preference will be given to candidates with experience in rodent surgery. Knowledge of respiratory physiology, spinal cord injury, and neuroplasticity is advantageous. Ability to independently evaluate, interpret, and review laboratory results and report findings in laboratory meetings will be required. The candidate will assist other lab members with troubleshooting and will be a team player to keep the lab running smoothly.
The duties include:
Perform rat surgeries and injections for experimental purposes which will require familiarity with and adherence to all IACUC and AAALAS guidelines for ethical treatment of animals.
Perform measurements of rodent breathing including head-out and whole-body plethysmography.
Perform calculations and maintain appropriate records and lab notebooks. Requires the use of Excel, GraphPad Prism for data analysis and PowerPoint for presenting results. Knowledge of equivalent programs for these duties is sufficient. Will be also trained on proprietary software required for some equipment.
Instruct undergraduate and graduate students in laboratory methods and troubleshooting as needed.
Maintain lab equipment and order supplies as necessary. Clean and perform routine maintenance on lab equipment. Other related duties as requested.
Expected Salary:
$47,500 - $53,000 annually
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field and three years of experience or Master's degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.
