NSC Marine is Hiring!

Join NSC Marine in BREMERTON, WA. NSC is hiring experienced Marine Blaster Painters certified to C7 / C14or C7 / C12standards to perform surface preparation and coating application on marine vessels and structures.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record working in shipyards, dry docks, or other marine industrial environments, with strong knowledge of SSPC/NACE standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform abrasive blasting to SSPC-SP and/or NACE standards for steel surfaces on marine vessels, barges, and structural components.
• Apply industrial and marine coatings using airless spray, brush, or roller to meet project specifications.
• Read and interpret work packages, drawings, and coating specifications.
• Select and operate proper blasting equipment, nozzles, hoses, and compressors.
• Mix and apply coatings according to manufacturer’s instructions and environmental conditions.
• Measure wet film thickness (WFT) and dry film thickness (DFT) to ensure compliance.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area, including proper containment and environmental controls.
• Adhere strictly to OSHA , SSPC , and shipyard safety protocols, including confined space entry procedures and PPE requirements.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs.
• Work collaboratively with QA/QC inspectors to ensure coating quality and surface prep meet contract standards.

• Qualifications & Certifications
  Required:

• Valid SSPC C7 Abrasive Blaster Certification.
• Valid SSPC C14 Industrial Coating Application Specialist OR SSPC C12 Spray Application Certification or SSPC CAS Level 2
• Minimum 3 years experience in marine or industrial blasting/painting.
• Ability to pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, and fit test for respirator.
• Knowledge of SSPC surface prep standards (SP-1 through SP-10).
• Strong understanding of coating data sheets, mixing ratios, and application conditions.

• Preferred:

• Previous experience in Navy, commercial shipyard, or offshore marine projects.

• Working Conditions

• Work is performed in dry dock, pier side, shop, and onboard vessels.
• Exposure to high noise levels, dust, fumes, and confined spaces.
• Required use of respirators, blast hoods, Tyvek suits, and other PPE.
• May require working at heights, in inclement weather, or outside normal business hours.

• Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift to 50 lbs regularly throughout the shift
• Prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders.
• Tolerance for dusty, noisy, and high-temperature environments.
