Climate Projects Specialist, Swinomish Department of Environment Protection Organization/Grantor: Swinomish Department of Environment Protection Position/Title/Fund: Climate Projects Specialist Type/Term: Full-time, Permanent Location: La Conner, Washington Salary: $22.43 - $26.91 hourly Description: The Climate Projects Specialist is responsible for providing climate change research, project management support, technical support, and community engagement and outreach for the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). This includes climate change background research, project coordination, developing curriculum modules for community outreach, supporting module delivery at community workshops, and supporting DEP’s implementation of the Climate Change Strategic Plan related to the Swinomish Climate Adaptation Action Plan. This is a full-time position, dependent on grant funding, supervised by the Environmental Director. Responsibilities: Research resource materials about climate change related to DEP’s Climate Change Strategic Plan, including from recent tribal environmental or climate reports, events, policies, codes, and workshops. Coordinate qualitative and/or quantitative primary research projects about climate change, analyzing data, and writing research reports for curriculum development. Prepare internal climate change technical reports based on compiled research. Implement and manage 1-2+ DEP climate change grants and contracts as directed by senior managers, including: Assist in grant development, researching available grants, drafting work plans & budgets for ongoing and new applications. Coordinate program spending. Draft project/contract work scope and manage projects including tracking budgets for contracts. Manage special studies and analytical projects to fill data gaps and identify potential climate change hazards or impacts, including: Data collection and preliminary data analysis. Technical reporting and review. Initiate and maintain coordination and collaboration between multiple departments and programs on Swinomish Climate Change Initiative work. Develop climate change curriculum outreach materials and/or modules, and coordinate curriculum delivery workshops and outreach to the Tribal Community. Perform a wide range of office and field duties as needed, which may or may not be related to regular responsibilities. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in climate change mitigation and/or disaster risk reduction and college coursework in environmental, physical, or natural science, or other discipline appropriate to the position; Master’s degree is desired. 1 year of experience as Climate Change Intern or comparable job experience. Academic coursework or professional experience in primary and secondary research. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently, efficiently, and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills. Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to condense and summarize research data into meaningful findings. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Experience performing multi-faceted office support, including detailed record keeping, filing, and organization. Innate curiosity to learn more and dig deeper. Initiative to build, strengthen, and maintain relationships between the DEP and community members. Collaborative team player able to integrate with a diverse team. Self-motivated and disciplined in time management to complete project tasks independently.
