The Florida Commission on Offender Review is looking to fill the Commission InvestigatorCS. The Commission on Offender Review performs a vital role in Florida's criminal justice system by preserving the autonomy needed in post-release decisions affecting inmates and ex-offenders. The commission functions as a quasi-judicial, decision-making body. Commissioners preside over weekly meetings at the central office in Tallahassee and various other state locations as required by statute. During these public proceedings, the commissioners make a variety of determinations regarding parole and other releases.

Position description includes assisting the Coordinator in carrying out the mission of the Office of Executive Clemency, maintaining expert knowledge of the Rules of Executive Clemency, determining applicant eligibility for clemency consideration, conducting investigations, responding to questions and correspondence from clemency applicants, maintaining a working knowledge of various criminal justice data systems and computer programs, and maintaining effective and cooperative working relationships.
Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree preferred or a minimum of four years of experience working in clemency experience. Knowledge of criminal justice principles and practices, legal terminology, and methods and techniques of reviewing, researching, and summarizing criminal and social data is required. Skill in using a personal computer to compose reports and access information is also required. Ability to understand and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures is necessary. Ability to effectively compose written reports and investigations, communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships is also required. Ability to analyze and interpret data and properly handle matters of highly confidential nature is necessary. Working knowledge and/or certification of various criminal justice systems is required.
Preference may be given to applicants that possess a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Background screening requirement includes a State and National criminal history check as a condition of employment before beginning employment, and also be screened in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, F.S., and, if applicable, Chapter 408, F.S. No applicant may begin employment until the background investigation results are received, reviewed, and approved by the Commission. Background investigations shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for State and Federal criminal records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and may include local criminal history checks through local law enforcement agencies. Employees are also subject to background re-screening at least every five (5) years.
