Hiring Range: $32 to $36 Hourly (paid bi-weekly)

The Community Safety Manager is responsible for the identification, implementation and coordination of the safety and security-related functions throughout CHT’s portfolio. This individual works closely with CHT staff, guests, tenants, public safety and other service providers to promote a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with CHT staff and community safety and service agencies.

  • Act as a resource for staff related to difficult interactions with guests/tenants/residents, providing insight and mentorship as applicable to promote positive growth and interactions with others.

  • Use active listening, compassion, and verbal de-escalation skills to diffuse conflict when difficult situations arise.

  • Assess safety and security needs at multifamily properties, community facilities, hotels and shelters throughout CHT’s portfolio, making recommendations for appropriate updates to systems and structures required to promote a safe and welcoming environment.

  • Coordinate and oversee security services throughout CHT’s portfolio as needed including security cameras, contracts, and related services in collaboration with Property Management, Facilities and Resident Services staff as applicable.

  • Manage communication with law enforcement and related entities related to site safety needs, criminal activity, and other related matters.

  • Act as the staff expert for all security camera systems throughout CHT’s portfolio including operation, camera placement, watching and saving video footage, sharing footage with internal and external parties as appropriate, and train property managers and other staff in appropriate use of cameras and footage to promote safety and security.

  • Provide representation and leadership on CHT’s safety committee.

  • Identify safety training topics and providers and coordinate and/or facilitate content in consultation with department leadership and Human Resources department.

  • Perform special projects that may be assigned in support of the Director or Associate Directors.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience working in security, safety, social services, emergency medical response, law enforcement, corrections, or related field is required. Experience working with the unhoused or other high risk populations is strongly preferred.

  • Strong working knowledge of security systems, security cameras, building safety considerations, community safety techniques, and related regulations is required. Course work or Certificate in Safety and Health are a plus.

  • Excellent verbal de-escalation skills are imperative.

  • Familiarity with housing programs, social service programs, and confidentiality rules and regulations including HIPAA are a strong plus.

  • Strong computer and technology proficiency required.

  • Must be highly self-motivated, and committed to social justice, equity, inclusion and CHT’s membership-based model of permanently affordable housing.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, empathy, confidentiality, conflict resolution, and relational skills required.

  • Must have strong coaching and mentoring skills and ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion.

  • Expert ability to handle high pressure situations in a calm and professional manner is essential.

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.

  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.

The work entails significant self-motivation and autonomy. Significant travel within northwest Vermont is required on a regular basis. Occasional travel to meetings and seminars may be required.
