Overview Job Title: Education and Career Specialist CASES' youth programs aim to help New York City's systems-impacted young people, aged 13-27, to lead productive lives. Programs emphasize individualized case management, evidence-based programming, and group activities that build positive peer associations. Fair Futures is a youth-led advocacy movement and coalition of 100+ organizations advocating for young people who are system-involved in NYC to access the supports they need to achieve their potential. Coaches provide emotional support and help with academic, career development, and life goals. Education and Career Specialists work collaboratively with Coaches and young people to conduct specialized tasks to support academic and career development goals. Position is part of the Fair Futures initiative, with responsibilities including educational advocacy, school enrollment or transfer assistance, enrollment in or transfer to best-fit schools or programs, financial aid applications, IEP/504 services, and deep career exploration. Responsibilities Support young people in building relationships and goal setting with youth and key adults in their lives (parents/caregivers, school staff, agency staff). Collaborate with the Coach to help young people explore interests and opportunities in academics and career development; identify best-fit schools, programs, and opportunities; navigate challenges and plan next steps. Assist with educational duties including high school selection, school transfers, IEP/504 services, college planning, college tours, and financial aid applications; support transitions between schools and programs; assist with GED-related activities. Assist youth with enrolling in onsite internships or job readiness programs; conduct career assessments; help create or refine resumes; explore alternative post-secondary and career paths; advise on best-fit programs; connect with external opportunities and employers to build a pipeline. Track youth contacts and progress using the Care4 database; participate in weekly staff meetings and trainings. Engage in relationship-building with youth, families, and school/agency staff; support youth and families in navigating systems and accessing services. What You Will Be Doing (Additional Details) Build relationships with young people and their support network to promote goal attainment and well-being. Work with Coaches to expose youth to academic and career development opportunities aligned with their interests; assist with school selection, enrollment, and persistence across academics and career development pathways. Support students in college applications, financial aid, course selection, and appropriate program placement; assist with GED testing and related processes. Support with career development activities, including internships, resume development, and exploration of post-secondary options. Engage with external programs and employers to create internship and employment pipelines. Maintain weekly data entry of contacts, goals, and progress in Care4; participate in meetings and trainings. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree with 2+ years of experience with youth, or an Associate’s degree with 3+ years of experience, or equivalent experience (credible messenger) with 4+ years of relevant work with youth. History navigating NYC public schools, college applications, and related systems. Willingness to work some evenings and weekends. Preferred Skills Experience navigating NYC public schools and college application processes; lived experience with systems involvement is a plus. Strength-based, trauma-informed, youth development approach; ability to collaborate with families and school/agency staff; data-informed decision making. Strong communication, time-management, and organizational skills; commitment to diversity; ability to work independently and as part of a team; valid driver’s license a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to participate in in-person and virtual meetings; meet youth/families at homes and schools; accompany youth to events and appointments via walking or public transit. Work Hours and Location Full-time, Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM with flexibility for youth/family needs. Location: 4 West 125th Street, New York, NY 10027; work primarily in Manhattan and the Bronx, with in-office reporting responsibilities and community-based work across NYC. Workplace flexibility to work from home or other suitable spaces as appropriate. Compensation and Benefits Salary: $58,349 per year.
