The OpportunityWe are seeking a passionate and skilled High School Science Teacher (Chemistry) to join our team. The ideal candidate will bring energy, innovation, and a commitment to equity in education.
Content Knowledge & Instruction
Plan and deliver lessons that connect past, present, and future learning.
Use varied strategies (modeling, cooperative learning, questioning, reading/writing) to differentiate instruction.
Monitor understanding and adjust teaching to maximize engagement and success.
Hold students accountable while explaining content in multiple ways.
Assessment & Feedback
Use diverse assessments (tests, oral, written, performance) to measure learning.
Track and record progress to guide instruction and grading.
Provide ongoing, meaningful feedback before, during, and after lessons.
Student Communication & Relationships
Communicate clearly with precise, respectful, and caring language.
Build rapport by modeling fairness, respect, and concern for student well-being.
Learn about student interests and encourage active participation.
Classroom Management
Maintain a safe, orderly environment aligned with school behavior policies.
Set clear expectations, manage routines, transitions, and emergencies effectively.
Monitor behavior and provide constructive feedback to students and parents.
Professionalism & Growth
Demonstrate professionalism in appearance, ethics, and responsibilities.
Meet deadlines, follow policies, and maintain confidentiality.
Engage in continuous professional development and seek self-improvement.
School & Community Engagement
Communicate regularly and promptly with parents/guardians.
Encourage parental involvement and provide useful school information.
Collaborate with colleagues and support school-wide goals and initiatives.
Skills & Abilities
Design and deliver effective learning programs for diverse learners.
Create motivating, inclusive, and safe classroom environments.
Manage multiple priorities, make sound decisions, and solve problems effectively.
Work independently and collaboratively with students, staff, and the community.
Required:
Master’s degree in a related field.
NYS Certification in Science.
Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience (middle or high school).
Preferred:
Master’s in Secondary Education or related field.
Experience in urban or non-traditional school settings.
Strong communication and classroom management skills.
Familiarity with educational technology (SMARTBoard, laptops, etc.).
A growth mindset and willingness to engage in continuous professional learning.
