Job Description

Performs phlebotomy (the practice of entering a vein to draw blood) services on inpatients and outpatients, as requested by physicians, in support of the hospital's mission of patient care. Minimum qualifications include completion of a phlebotomy education program or an allied health education program with a minimum of 50 successful unaided venipunctures. Preferred qualifications include certification by AMT, NCA, or ASCP, completion of NAACLS accredited phlebotomy program, or equivalent education and experience. Experience in hospital or clinic setting is required. Core duties include timely blood collection, following laboratory guidelines, operating laboratory equipment, restocking supplies, knowledge of patient care requirements, efficient workload management, effective communication with staff and patients, clerical duties, computer entry of lab tests, assisting hospital personnel, and participation in educational and training activities. Physical demands include stamina and ability to move, stoop, bend, reach, stand, push, lift, and walk. Work environment accommodates individuals with disabilities. Position works 6p-6:30a with rotating holidays and weekends, scheduled weekly hours of 36, night shift, non-exempt status.
