Job Description

Position: Pool Operations Supervisor

Department: Facilities

Job Summary:

Performs a wide variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of all swimming pool and spa facilities and equipment; supervises staff.

Duties and Responsibilities (specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to):
  1. Ensures pool and spa are maintained in accordance with departmental standards as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  2. Maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces such items as filters, pumps, and underwater lights.
  3. Ensures the water system for the pool and spa are maintained by tasks such as testing the water for chlorine content, pH factor, and combined chlorine and temperature control.
  4. Ensures the chemical feed system is maintained and refilled.
  5. Ensures that regularly scheduled maintenance on all pool and spa equipment is performed; participates in maintenance activities, as necessary.
  6. Responds to after-hours emergency calls, as needed.
  7. Responds to complaints promptly and effectively.
  8. Ensures maintenance records are maintained as required by pertinent regulations.
  9. Review status reports related to pool conditions and takes action, as appropriate.
  10. Documents information on preventive maintenance performed on electrical pumps equipment and machinery and monitors a preventive maintenance program.
  11. Operates and maintains mechanical equipment safely and correctly; operates a department vehicle to transport supplies or conduct related business, as required.
  12. Operates hand and power tools safely and correctly to accomplish assigned duties.
  13. Ensures regular inventories of supplies and equipment are conducted.
  14. Orders, receives, and stores pool and spa and related supplies.
  15. Establishes emergency procedures for accidents and related issues; reviews and updates on a regular basis.
  16. Oversees closures of the pool and spa, as necessary.
  17. Handles administrative work requirements.
  18. Ensures routine custodial duties are performed as required to maintain the facilities in a clean and safe condition; performs custodial duties, as necessary.
  19. Provides courteous and cordial service to team members, guests, and vendors.
  20. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless guest service.
  21. Follows established safety and security policies and procedures including reporting accidents, injuries, and unsafe working conditions immediately to a supervisor.
  22. Complies and ensures team members also comply with departmental and the Entertainment Enterprise Division's internal controls, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  23. Maintains appropriate staffing levels; schedules staff to ensure an adequate number are available.
  24. Supervises and develops direct reports by mentoring, coaching, and providing performance feedback; works collaboratively with them to design professional development plans that support their continuous learning.
  25. Assigns decision making and work functions in an appropriate manner to maximize effectiveness; clearly communicates the parameters of the delegated responsibility and required actions, constraints, or deadlines.
  26. Interviews, recommends hires, writes, and issues performance appraisals, resolves problems, provides open communication, and recommends corrective action and/or termination, when appropriate.
  27. Conducts or ensures all team members receive on-going training.
  28. Develops the talents and skills of team members as measured by guest satisfaction, team member satisfaction, and successful team member advancement.
  29. Develops a 'team" atmosphere with team members and takes a pro-active leadership role.
  30. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  1. Knowledge of equipment, materials, terminology, and methods used to maintain and operate pools and spas.
  2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of pool and spa maintenance and repair.
  3. Knowledge of standard pool and spa safety precautions and procedures.
  4. Knowledge of pool controls and safety devices, including Material Safety Data Sheets.
  5. Knowledge of electrical maintenance, including installation of all sizes of motors, and automatic starting equipment.
  6. Knowledge of occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions.
  7. Knowledge of pool and spa sanitation and chlorination systems.
  8. Knowledge of departmental and the Entertainment Enterprise Division's internal controls, policies, and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  9. Knowledge of record-keeping techniques.
  10. Knowledge of modern custodial methods and use and care of cleaning materials and equipment.
  11. Skill in the programming and maintenance of pool and spa equipment.
  12. Skill in caring for and using hand tools and equipment necessary to perform various electrical repair tasks such as volt meters and volt ohm meters (VOM).
  13. Skill in locating and repairing defects in electrical systems and pool equipment.
  14. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  15. Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
  16. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  17. Ability to effectively handle pool and spa related emergencies and troubleshoot.
  18. Ability to use hand and power tools safely and correctly.
  19. Ability to diagnose problems and make recommendations.
  20. Ability to properly install motors and pumps.
  21. Ability to repair and maintain pumps, filters, and related mechanical equipment.
  22. Ability to repair and replace damaged parts and equipment.
  23. Ability to maintain the proper chemistry of pool and spa water.
  24. Ability to make estimates of materials required.
  25. Ability to read and interpret pertinent regulations.
  26. Ability to operate and maintain mechanical equipment safely and correctly.
  27. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.
  28. Ability to perform the general custodial duties needed to maintain buildings and grounds in a clean and safe condition.
  29. Ability to use graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids.
  30. Ability to lead and develop team members.
  31. Ability to make decisions and effectively coordinate the work of team members.
  32. Ability to effectively communicate and work cooperatively with other team members, guests, and vendors.
  33. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  34. Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under stressful conditions.
  35. Ability to push, pull, and turn a tool cart (maximum weight up to 300 pounds) and wear fitted tool belt (maximum weight up to 20 pounds), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  36. Ability to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet), with or without a reasonable accommodation.
  37. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
  38. Ability to understand and follow verbal and written directions.
  39. Ability to make mathematical computations pertinent to the position.
  40. Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
  41. Ability to work in small, cramped areas such as equipment enclosures.
  42. Ability to travel across rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
  43. Ability to withstand exposure to dust, noise, fumes, high voltage, and toxic materials.
  44. Ability to do heavy lifting, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, walk, and stand for prolonged periods of time.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school or General Equivalency Diploma
  2. Two (2) years' experience in commercial/industrial pool and spa maintenance.
  3. One (1) year of Lead or Supervisory experience.
  4. Must either possess or obtain a current Pima County pool certification or National Swimming Pool Foundation Certification as a Pool and Spa Operator® within (3) months of employment.
  5. Must have a valid Driver's License.
  6. Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, especially word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  7. Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and special events, as needed.
  8. Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  9. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid non-gaming license.

  1. First Aid certification.
  2. Certified Professional Rescuer (CPR) Certification
