Reports to: Director of Product Engineering

FLSA Status; Exempt/Salaried

Bonus Eligibility: Yes

Travel: 5-10%

The Product Engineer reports to the Director of Product Development and oversees engineering aspects of product design, product development, and existing product improvements for UHD’s Unique Home Designs and Titan brands that are typically deployed in the brick-and-mortar retail, dealer, and e-commerce channels and the ASSI brand that serves OEM’s. Typically, this includes but is not limited to the creation of product engineering briefs, product design blueprints, bills of materials, product development timelines, and other planning tools to ensure the success of product-driven initiatives. This role also requires the Product Engineer to consider and account for product cost, manufacturing constraints, product quality and performance, reliability, and serviceability of the product which may be manufactured in Asia or the U.S. The Product Engineer will be dealing with both the design and manufacturing aspects of the product.

Primary Job Responsibilities

· Establishes, plans, and executes engineering short-term & long-term schedules including design, development, prints, and change orders.

· Manages multiple simple & complex projects including part or product re-design, new product design, engineering change, cost reduction & product improvement.

· Modifies existing products, and designs new products.

· Evaluate cost effectiveness through process and design improvements.

· Considers and accounts for product cost, manufacturing constraints, product quality and performance, reliability, and serviceability of the product which may be manufactured in Asia or the U.S.

· Collaborates with marketing, manufacturing, global sourcing, sales, and finance in cross-functional teams to move new products from concept to market.

· Collaborates, with cross-functional teams (both domestically and internationally) to test new designs for functionality and quality.

· Brainstorms improvements to existing products which will help sales and margins.

· Ensures that departmental goals are completed on time, accurately, and within budget.

· Keeps abreast of market trends and competitive products.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

· Working knowledge of the U.S. Standards for doors and windows.

· Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate both strategically and tactically

· Good organizational and planning skills that include being proactive and embracing the philosophy of continuous improvement.

· General business acumen with an appreciation for all facets of the business

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Must be a self-starter with strong project management skills and detail orientation in order to drive program success across functions, and ability to take complete ownership of tasks.

· Ability to evaluate existing engineering disciplines to then develop and implement necessary improvements.

Education

· Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

· Minimum 2-3 years of engineering work experience

· Experience with aluminum and/or steel fabrication products is strongly preferred.

· Experience with door and/or window product development preferred.

· Experience with hands-on prototype creation in a machine shop environment preferred.

· Solid-works proficiency in creating assembly models and manufacturing drawings.

· Must have passion for our business, along with a strong commitment to timely execution of tasks in a fast-paced environment.

· Outstanding, hands-on and technology skills are a must

· Must be able to work extended work weeks to meet product timelines/due dates, as needed.
