We are looking for SAP Basis Developer (also known as an SAP Basis Administrator or Consultant) specializes in the technical administration of SAP systems. Their primary focus is on managing the underlying infrastructure and ensuring that SAP environments run smoothly, securely, and efficiently. SAP Basis Developers handle everything from installations and configurations to monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance tuning.
Core Responsibilities
- System Installation and Configuration
- Install, configure, and upgrade SAP systems, including SAP S/4HANA, ECC, BW, PI, and Solution Manager.
- Manage SAP instances, landscapes, and client environments, ensuring that system components are integrated properly.
- Set up connectivity between SAP systems and third-party applications, ensuring seamless communication and data exchange.
- System Administration and Monitoring
- Monitor SAP systems for performance, health, and availability using tools like SAP Solution Manager, SAP CCMS, and third-party monitoring tools.
- Conduct routine health checks and proactively address issues to minimize downtime.
- Schedule and monitor SAP jobs, perform data archiving, and ensure backup and recovery mechanisms are in place.
- User and Role Management
- Manage user accounts, roles, and authorizations within SAP to ensure proper access control.
- Work with the Security team to design role-based access control (RBAC) strategies and implement them to meet security and compliance requirements.
- Perform regular security audits, review logs, and address security vulnerabilities within SAP systems.
- Performance Tuning and Optimization
- Optimize SAP system performance by tuning memory, CPU, and disk utilization.
- Use transaction codes like ST02, ST03, and ST04 to analyze system performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Configure load balancing and manage SAP buffers, tablespaces, and system memory for optimal resource utilization.
- Database Administration
- Manage SAP databases (e.g., HANA, Oracle, SQL Server, or DB2) by handling database backup, recovery, and maintenance.
- Perform database tuning and optimization, monitor database growth, and manage database storage.
- Apply patches and upgrades to the database systems, ensuring compatibility with SAP applications.
- System Backups and Disaster Recovery
- Configure and schedule regular system backups, including full and incremental backups, to protect against data loss.
- Implement disaster recovery procedures and test recovery processes to ensure business continuity.
- Document backup policies and restore strategies to recover systems in case of failures.
- Transport Management
- Configure and manage the Transport Management System (TMS) to handle changes and updates across development, testing, and production environments.
- Coordinate with developers and functional teams to move transports from one system to another, ensuring consistent system landscapes.
- Manage SAP Change Request Management (ChaRM) in Solution Manager to streamline transport processes and ensure controlled deployment.
- Patch Management and System Upgrades
- Plan and apply SAP kernel updates, support packages, enhancement packages, and SAP Notes to keep systems secure and up-to-date.
- Test patches and upgrades in non-production environments before implementing them in production.
- Work with business teams to schedule upgrades to minimize impact on daily operations.
Key Skills
- Technical Proficiency
- Strong understanding of SAP Basis and SAP NetWeaver administration, including system installations, configurations, and upgrades.
- Knowledge of SAP HANA, Oracle, DB2, or SQL Server database administration.
- Familiarity with SAP Solution Manager for monitoring, transport management, and change control.
- SAP Landscape and Architecture Management
- Experience managing SAP environments (Development, Quality Assurance, Production) and performing system refreshes and copies.
- Proficiency in configuring high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) setups for SAP environments.
- Knowledge of SAP system landscapes, including S/4HANA, ECC, BW, PI, and CRM.
- Operating Systems and Networking
- Experience with OS administration (Linux, Unix, Windows) and configuring SAP on multiple platforms.
- Understanding of network protocols, firewall configurations, and network connectivity between SAP systems and external systems.
- Performance Monitoring and Tuning
- Expertise in using SAP performance monitoring tools and analyzing system metrics.
- Ability to tune database, memory, and application parameters to enhance SAP system performance.
- Familiarity with troubleshooting tools like SAP EarlyWatch Alerts and transaction codes (e.g., ST02, ST06, SM50).
- System Security and Compliance
- Knowledge of SAP security concepts, user management, and role-based authorization.
- Familiarity with compliance standards like SOX, GDPR, and HIPAA, and the ability to ensure SAP system compliance.
- Experience with system audits, applying SAP Notes for security, and managing authorization profiles.
- Soft Skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex SAP issues.
- Ability to work well in cross-functional teams, coordinating with developers, functional consultants, and IT infrastructure teams.
- Excellent communication skills to document processes, communicate system changes, and train end-users or junior administrators.
