Located on the lower level of The New York Historical, Clara is a warm, modern American restaurant with a menu inspired by the rhythm of the seasons. The menu is built around ingredients sourced from local green markets and our very own Katchkie Farm, ensuring every dish reflects the bounty of the region with freshness and intention.

Great Performances operates the Clara Restaurant at New York Historical. We are a hospitality management company committed to collaboration, innovation, and quality in our seasonal menus, striking design, impeccable service, and critical attention to detail. This woman-owned business serving New York City for over 40 years is renowned for events catering as well as food service in celebrated New York City cultural institutions, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Apollo Theater, and others. Great Performances is the nation’s first caterer to own and operate its own organic farm, Katchkie Farm, located in Kinderhook, NY. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Bartender and Server. This role combines bartending and serving duties, including mixing and serving drinks, taking food and beverage orders, and ensuring that each guest enjoys a memorable dining experience. The ideal candidate will be able to multitask, stay organized, and create a friendly, welcoming atmosphere for all guests. You will be the face of our establishment, delivering exceptional service in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.
  • Mix drinks and garnish cocktails based on customer preferences.
  • Monitor customer behavior and serve alcohol responsibly.
  • Ensure the bar area is clean, organized, and fully stocked.
  • Process customer payments, handle cash, and issue receipts.
  • Track inventory and report low stock levels to management.
  • Maintain bar safety and sanitation standards.
  • Greet and seat customers in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Deliver exceptional hospitality by providing a warm, welcoming, and attentive experience to all guests.
  • Maintain a sense of urgency to ensure timely service and efficient operations.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, demonstrating energy, focus, and adaptability.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of food and beverage menus, including ingredients, preparation methods, and pairings.
  • Support team members as needed, fostering a collaborative and seamless service experience.
  • Take and deliver food and beverage orders with attention to detail.
  • Ensure all orders are prepared accurately and served promptly.
  • Assist customers with menu selections and answer any questions.
  • Handle customer inquiries, complaints, and concerns with professionalism.
  • Ensure the dining area remains clean, including resetting tables and maintaining cleanliness throughout service.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure smooth service and timely order delivery.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of bartending and server experience in a customer-facing position.
  • Experience with restaurant POS systems, cash, and credit card handling.
  • Passion for food, beverage, and hospitality.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, including the ability to describe menu items.
  • Anticipates guest needs and derives satisfaction from providing excellent customer service.
  • Professional demeanor and polished appearance with a warm and welcoming personality.
  • Strong work ethic, well organized, focused, attentive to detail, with a sense of urgency.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Enthusiastic, team player with a positive attitude.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 30 lbs., and stand for at least 8 hours.
  • TIPS certification preferred.

Location: The New York Historical

Schedule: Part-Time, On-Site

Base salary: $11.00/hour + tips

Benefits: Sick time
