Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

Location: San Antonio, TX

Contract to Hire

We are seeking a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to work closely with engineering teams, ensuring applications are highly available, performant, and meet the reliability expectations of business stakeholders. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in software development, complexity analysis, and scalable system design to create automation solutions that ensure system availability and resiliency at scale.

Responsibilities

• Monitor system performance to identify areas for improvement and implement solutions that enhance system reliability and availability.
• Collaborate with architecture and development teams to make applications reliable, performant, and scalable on a global level.
• Work closely with product owners to implement and monitor key metrics that meet Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in collaboration with the development team.
• Drive root cause analysis (RCA) of production issues and failures within the supported application software stack.
• Design, build, and champion automated solutions to optimize uptime with minimal human intervention.
• Develop tools and processes to monitor cloud resources and applications effectively.
• Utilize Kubernetes for deploying platform services.
• Establish and enforce standards and best practices for reliability across development teams and external vendors as applicable.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of experience in deploying, administering, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
• 4+ years of experience in automation programming, using one or more of the following languages: Python, Go, Rust, or JavaScript (priority given to Python and Go).
• 4+ years of experience working with Linux terminal tools and writing shell scripts in a Linux environment.
• Strong understanding of SLAs, SLOs, and Service Level Indicators (SLIs).
• Extensive knowledge of public cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Deep understanding of Unix/Linux operating systems internals and administration (Debian preferred but not required).
• Solid knowledge of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, routing, network topologies, hardware).
• Proven ability to debug and optimize code and automate routine tasks.
• Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• SRE experience including monitoring and alert creation/tuning.
• Willingness to work West Coast hours (9 AM - 6 PM PST).
• Availability to participate in on-call rotation to support troubleshooting and communication efforts outside of regular business hours.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, OpenStack, relational and NoSQL databases.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Proactive attitude with a willingness to take action and achieve results.
• Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken).
• Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritize tasks effectively.
