Tenure Track Position in Modern and Contemporary Art History Scripps College, a women’s liberal arts college with a strong interdisciplinary tradition, invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant professor in Modern and Contemporary (20th and 21st century) Art History to begin in the Fall of 2026. Overview The role requires a foundation in European and U.S. art histories, with a particular emphasis on candidates whose research and teaching intersect with the art of the Global South, gender and sexuality, critical disability studies, or theories of art and architectural history. Responsibilities Teach a 2/2 course load (four courses per year) including: a survey of European Modernism, a survey of the Art World Since 1989, and upper‑division seminars in the Program in Art History at the Claremont Colleges. Supervise senior thesis advising. Participate in the Core Curriculum in Interdisciplinary Humanities at Scripps College. Qualifications Ph.D. in Art History (or closely related field) must be completed by the start date. At least one year (four courses) of teaching experience equivalent to the required teaching load. Research experience and interest in any of the following areas: art of the Global South, gender and sexuality, critical disability studies, or theories of art and architectural history.
