Transit System Safety Associate Position Description
Transit System Safety Associate is Dovetail Consulting's base-level consulting position. The Transit System Safety Associate will be based in Dovetail Consulting's Atlanta office. They will work with Dovetail Consulting's staff in Atlanta and with staff in other locations. The Transit System Safety Associate may also travel to support Dovetail Consulting projects throughout the United States. The Transit System Safety Associate supports Dovetail Consulting's senior staff and their highly varied, technical fieldwork. Responsibilities will include participating in field assessments and observations; writing and editing substantial reports based on a wide variety of sources and inputs; interpreting and editing client documentation and procedures; providing data, information, and analyses for use by Dovetail Consulting senior staff; and developing spreadsheets, presentations, and databases. The position supports Dovetail Consulting's senior staff but may also interface with Dovetail Consulting clients. The Transit System Safety Associate often also works independently and will be expected to continuously learn about all aspects of public transportation operations, maintenance, and management. Examples of work products an associate would learn would include,but are not limited to: reviewing corrective action plans (CAPS), reviewing transit agency reportable events, attending and preparing minutes and action items from quarterly meetings, reviewing and summarizing documents, reviewing other transit agency plans and procedures.
Transit System Safety Associate Qualifications
A bachelor's degree is required. Candidates with experience in transit, engineering, planning, or similar disciplines are often successful. Knowledge of or interest in public transportation operations, maintenance, or system safety is a plus. Familiarity with Safety Management Systems (SMS) is beneficial, as is knowledge of Federal Transit Administration transit safety rules and regulations. Candidates must be willing to attain both the Public Transportation Safety Certification Training Program (PTSCTP) Certificate and the Certified Rail Transportation Safety and Security Professional (TSSP) by Federal Transit Administration (FTA), Transportation Safety Institute (TSI). For the successful candidate, Dovetail Consulting will pay for the training and expenses required to obtain the PTSCTP and TSSP.
Transit System Safety Associate candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, and flexible. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong critical thinking ability, and an excellent capacity to analyze, understand, and incorporate technical information. Candidates must also be able to think creatively about data, and how to present it as useful and engaging information, both for external and internal use. Candidates must be able to work independently and interface regularly with a wide range of clients. Successful Transit System Safety and Security Associate must be engaging, and actively look for ways to help the Dovetail Consulting team. A Transit System Safety Associate must be very proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Candidates will be required to take a battery of pre-employment tests.
