Trending News, Sports and Entertainment Reporter

Are you a reporter who loves the adrenaline rush of trending news, sports and entertainment and being the first to publish the scoop? Has the pulse on who is breaking new ground, what issues are trending and how our readers can connect with the issues that matter most to them? As a Trending News, Sports and Entertainment Reporter for Cleveland.com, you will join a close-knit and collaborative team focused on posting on a wide range of high-interest and high-impact topics — everything from news about a country music star to wide-reaching changes announced by the post office.

The ideal candidate should be experienced, knowledgeable and well-sourced enough to break news and respond to emerging events with smart analysis.

Other responsibilities include:

• Using social monitoring tools to stay on top of daily news, sports, entertainment and trending developments 


• Crafting articles with SEO best practices at the forefront, from the headline to tags and more


• Identifying and reporting timely stories and follow ups


• Identifying and reporting on emerging and trending news stories


• Prioritizing stories based on urgency, newsworthiness, and interest.


• Studying analytics performance to understand the types of stories that most appeal to readers and incorporating that knowledge into daily coverage

The base salary range is $50,500 to $55,000 per year.  

The ideal candidate will have the following:

• Degree in journalism, English or communications, or related field preferred, or a combination of equivalent education and experience


• Minimum 3 years' journalism experience with a proven ability in reporting and writing 


• Proven experience building, maintaining, and engaging an active audience


• Ability to work independently under deadline pressure and prioritize tasks appropriately


• Demonstrated reporting, writing and organizational skills


• Solid understanding of news writing, journalistic ethics and story structure


• Understanding of search engine optimization practices


• Experience with using social media to source and promote content


• Demonstrated ability to capitalize on high-value topics by engaging audiences frequently
