9-10th Grade Math Associate Instructor (Spring 2026)

Join SEOs community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Using our original curriculum and a studentcentered approach, Associate Instructors support Scholars journeys to a competitive college and beyond.

Position Overview

Associate Instructors will coteach four 50minute math lessons to two groups of approximately 2530 Scholars, facilitate classroom instruction, teach minilessons, organize small group and oneonone instruction, and provide additional scholar support. They do not have grading responsibilities.

Dates, Schedule, & Weekly Hours

  • Dates: The start and programming dates depend on which grade level the instructor is placed.
  • 9th Grade
    • Instructor Orientation: Saturday, 2/28, 9:00am2:00pm
    • Scholar Orientation: Saturday, 3/7
    • Saturday Academy (8 total): 3/14, 3/21, 3/28, 4/11, 4/18, 4/25, 5/2, 5/9
  • 10th Grade
    • Instructor Orientation: Saturday, 1/24, 9:00am2:00pm
    • Saturday Academy (10 total): 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 3/7, 3/14, 3/21, 4/1, 4/18, 4/25, 5/9
  • Schedule: Math Associate Instructors coteach four 50minute lessons and have an instructional prep period. Individual teaching schedules vary within the 9:00am4:00pm instructional time frame.
  • Weekly Hours: Associate Instructors work up to 8 hours per week (Standard + Flex hours)
    • Standard Hours: Saturdays, 9:00am4:00pm (with a 50minute lunch) 6 hours/weekly
    • Flex Hours: up to 2 hours/weekly for lesson prep, grading, communication, etc.
  • Future opportunities: Summer or Fall semesters.

Location

Saturday Academy Programming will take place at the UC Law campus: 200McAllister St, SanFrancisco, CA94102; off the Civic Center BART stop.

  • 9th Math: Numbers and Operations
  • 10th Math: Trigonometry
  • Relevant Skills
    • Numbers and Operations, Graphs and Relationships, Algebra/Pattern and Structure Courses
    • Skills include: properties of numbers; expressions, equations, and identities; ratio and rate; percentages; proportional reasoning; irrational numbers; linear, quadratic, and exponential functions; algebraic representation of functions; graphing functions and identifying key characteristics; modeling realworld situations with functions; systems of equations and inequalities; algebra with exponents; fractional exponents and roots; algebra with rational expressions and equations; properties of 2D and 3D geometric figures; introduction to coordinate geometry.
    • Trigonometry, Precalculus, and SAT Math Courses
      • Skills include: triangle geometry and special triangles; trigonometric functions; inverse trigonometric functions; radian measure; the unit circle; graphing and modeling with sine and cosine functions; unit analysis; function notation, including function composition and inverse functions; characteristics of graphs; transformations of graphs; average rate of change; introduction to limits; introduction to the derivative and the power rule; content covered on the new digital SAT.

Key Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Facilitation Coteach four periods of Math, lead classes with provided lesson plans, meet objectives, uphold rigorous instruction standards.
  • Navigate Instructional Technologies Use Brightspace, Desmos, GSuit, Zoom chat in a blended environment.
  • Content Preparation Read, internalize, practice all lesson plans and materials, adjust pacing and activities to student needs.
  • Tutoring & Academic Support Host opendoor lunch tutoring sessions with Scholars to review skills, makeup missed work, or develop new skills.
  • Classroom Culture Project an energetic, engaging, approachable persona to build student connection and community.
  • Collaboration Attend meetings, professional development, checkins, debriefs, respond to emails and Zoom chats.
  • Coaching & Feedback Meet with assigned instructional coach at least twice per semester to receive and implement feedback per SEOs Indicators of Effective Instruction.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum of a Bachelors degree in a content related field.
  • High school classroom teaching experience.
  • Comfortable and skilled at working with and navigating technological learning systems.
  • Understanding and practice of studentcentered pedagogy.
  • Expertise and depth of knowledge in Advanced high schoollevel Mathematics (Algebra & Trigonometry).

Preferred

  • Secondary Education Degree and Certification.
  • Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Certifications, PD course completions, and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies.
  • Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing the historical and continued causes of societal ills and challenges.
  • Teaching certification is not required.

Compensation

Associate Instructors are compensated at $40 per hour. This position averages 8 hours per week. Payment is determined based on applicant qualifications and position requirements. SEO reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
