Job Title: Marketing & Mission Advancement Coordinator
Organizational Relationship: Reports to Director of Marketing

Department: Marketing

Location: Whispering Winds Main Office, San Diego, CA

Position Type: Full Time, Non-exempt, plus benefits

Pay: $22+ Hourly (depending on experience/education)

Overview:

The Marketing & Mission Advancement Coordinator contributes to the mission of Whispering Winds by supporting the communication and outreach efforts that share the heart and impact of the ministry. This position focuses on developing and organizing digital content, managing social media activity, assisting with donor communications, and representing the organization at community and faith-based events. Ideal for a motivated individual with a passion for ministry and an interest in marketing and communications, this role offers the opportunity to grow professionally within a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Qualifications:

• Experience in marketing, social media, communications, or nonprofit development

• Confidence in capturing photos and videos and creating visual and written content

• Strong understanding of platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Tiktok

• Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva) and editing apps

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Is comfortable initiating outreach, presenting to groups, and speaking with donors

• Organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and able to meet deadlines

• Positive, team-oriented attitude and willingness to learn and grow

• Is able to collaborate and take direction from both intra- & interdepartmental (when necessary) managers and own/complete tasks in a timely fashion

• Has the ability to foster effective working relationships with SD office staff, onsite Julian staff, guests, volunteers, and outside contractors

• Considers themselves to be coachable and are open to constructive criticism, and willing to cross-train

• Flexible schedule, able to work occasional weekends and travel to Julian when needed

Experience in these areas is a plus:

• Hotel/Motel or Camping Industry

• Catholic Ministry

• Email marketing or CRM tools (e.g., Bloomerang)

• Knowledge of SEO or basic digital analytics

Primary Responsibilities:

Digital Media & Content Creation

• Create, schedule, and publish engaging posts on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, etc.

• Capture and edit photo and video content for marketing and promotional purposes

• Write captions and stories that reflect the mission and culture of Whispering Winds

• Monitor social media engagement and respond to messages and comments

Content Management & Planning

• Organize and archive digital assets (photos, videos, testimonials)

• Collaborate with the Marketing Lead to build monthly content calendars

• Support email marketing efforts (e.g., monthly eNewsletters, donor updates)

• Stays current on nonprofit and marketing trends

• Contribute to creative brainstorming and campaign planning

Donor & Community Engagement Support

• Using our database system (Bloomerang) to find donor information

• Assist with crafting donor thank-you messages, birthdays, and milestone notes

• Proactively research and identify potential monthly donors and sponsors to support the ministry

• Help prepare content and visuals for donor campaigns and sponsorship recognition

• Research outreach events that would benefit our mission and attend events to represent the organization and capture shareable content

Administrative & Team Support

• Greet office guests and support general office hospitality

• Maintain the organization’s calendar to accurately reflect staff schedules, holidays, and events

• Lead on office safety, including managing the locking/unlocking of doors and arming/disarming the alarm at the opening and closing of business

• Assist with XEROX copier, including coordinating supplies and troubleshooting

• Join weekly team meetings to provide input and stay informed on priorities

• Support Marketing Director and Lead with project-based needs

• Assisting in special event (Annual Gala, etc.) tasks that fall outside of usual, day-to-day departmental responsibilities

This role is designed as an entry-to-mid-level position to the full Marketing & Mission Advancement position. As experience is gained, responsibilities may grow to include campaign strategy, donor engagement, sponsorships, and content analytics.

Work Environment and Requirements:

• Based in the San Diego office with occasional travel to Julian

• Occasional weekend work for events and content capture

• Must have reliable transportation

• Normal office environment requiring occasional lifting (up to 20 lbs.), bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and standing for moderate periods of time

We are a lay directed, tax-exempt, nonprofit corporation. While we are the only Catholic-based camp of its kind in all of Southern California, Whispering Winds is open year-round to all faiths. We have a business office in San Diego, as well as our camp location.
