Experienced Landscape Maintenance Workers

As a Parks Maintenance Worker, you'll be an integral part of maintaining the beauty and functionality of Leawood’s parks and green spaces. A few of your daily tasks may include:

  • Performing general grounds maintenance to keep outdoor areas clean, safe, and well-kept
  • Weeding flower beds, garden areas, and landscaped areas
  • Watering plants, lawns, and other vegetation as needed
  • Planting flowers, shrubs, and seasonal vegetation
  • Pruning trees, bushes, and other plants to maintain healthy growth and appearance
  • Operating basic landscaping tools and equipment safely and effectively
  • Assisting with minor repairs or upkeep of outdoor facilities and walkways

As a Park Maintenance team member, you will gain hands-on experience in a wide range of landscape and grounds maintenance tasks, from identifying and addressing issues with plant health to implementing effective maintenance solutions.

You’ll be involved in a variety of park maintenance activities, including natural areas management, invasive species control, pesticide applications, trail maintenance, greenhouse production, and responding to inclement weather events such as flooding and snow removal. You will have a work-life balance where your schedule will be 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some scheduled overtime.

As a Parks Maintenance Worker with the City of Leawood, you will have the opportunity to grow in your skills and knowledge through hands-on job training and attending workshops, outside training, and achieving multiple certifications. You will have a clear career development path to become a Parks Specialist, where you can lead and mentor other Maintenance Workers.

Minimum Requirements: Must have two (2) years of experience in parks maintenance, or equivalent experience or education. Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s Drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.

Preferred Requirements : Four (4) years of experience in parks landscaping, arboriculture, or equivalent experience or education. Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsements.

Starting Rate of Pay: $22.00 -$24.00 / hourly, DOQ 
(This is a non-exempt benefits eligible position.)
