Susan Bakken

Enthusiastic Susan Bakken is a lively ‘southern girl’ born and raised in Texas. Her husband brought her to his home state of Iowa, where she enjoyed raising their four boys, one of them another Body Wisdom graduate, who practices with her at Healistics, Susan’s own establishment.

She started her career as stay-at-home mom prior to opening and running the “Book Cellar” in Iowa Falls. After moving to Des Moines, Susan utilized her self acquired marketing and graphic arts skills in her position with the local Harley Davidson store.

Coming from a long line of educators it was a natural evolution for Susan to teach. Her motivation to pass on knowledge, empower, and encourage students is further rooted in her purpose of helping others to be successful: “I want us all to succeed. I want to share. I want to help others to expand, give them a little nugget to be successful. ‘Take something form a class and make a whole life out of it!’, she says and: “I love touching peoples lives in a way that makes a difference.” It brings her joy, Susan shares.

Susan’s awareness for her surroundings and appreciation for nature lets her things in a larger frame; from beginning to end - from seed to full growth, recognizing inter-connectedness of everything, and how one good deed leads to the next, and ultimately serves everyone.

She believes that true care for others comes from self-awareness. Susan is very compassionate, values mindfulness, kindness, and understanding for others.

Susan calls cooking her ‘love-language’ and has learned the healing power of food first hand. As active as she is, she loves curling up on the couch with a good book an her rescue kitty and Chihuahua’s company, or she’ll listen to music, or meditate.
